Following Hurricane Katrina, MedKaz founder Merle Bushkin, watched on television as medical records floated in flood water and survivors appeared at hospitals to get medications and care but didn’t know what meds they took or the details of their health issues – and neither did the doctors they were able to see. Like others, he asked why doctors kept paper records and shared records via fax when every other industry was computerized.
As a senior citizen and investment banker whose prior involvement with healthcare had only been as an occasional patient, he brought a unique perspective to the problem, and assembled a talented team of developers and advisors. Together, they formulated a revolutionary solution that makes a patient’s complete record from all their providers available anytime anywhere, plus a unique supportive business model that saves money for patients and insurers, and generates sorely needed new revenue for doctors and hospitals.
MedKaz focuses on how doctors and patients use the records their doctors keep rather than trying to manage how their doctors keep them. It does so by giving copies of the patient’s records however they were created – and our patented application to manage them – to the patient on a MedKaz minidrive which they, in turn, give to any provider at the point of care. It’s a powerful, easy to use solution everyone can afford and use – even low-income earners and tech-challenged seniors!
